  • Simplified Installation and Use: The absence of a physical display reduces wiring complexity and installation time. With your smartphone acting as the display, setup and monitoring are straightforward and user-friendly.
  • Comprehensive Monitoring Needs: The auxiliary connection feature allows for monitoring multiple aspects of your battery system, such as a second battery or battery bank midpoint, enhancing your ability to maintain optimal battery health.
  • Remote Monitoring: For those who need to monitor their battery system remotely, the VE.Direct port allows for integration with GX devices, providing access to battery data from anywhere in the world via the Victron VRM portal.

Installation and Usage Steps

  • Unboxing and Preparation: Upon receiving your SmartShunt IP65 500A, ensure that the package includes the main unit, VE.Direct cable, and the necessary wiring components. Select a dry, well-ventilated location close to your battery system for installation.

  • Mounting the SmartShunt: The SmartShunt has two 5.5 mm holes for mounting. Secure the unit to a firm surface using appropriate screws or bolts (not included). Refer to the dimension drawings in the manual for precise mounting hole locations.

  • Making Electrical Connections:

    Step 1:
Connect the negative battery terminal to the M10 bolt labelled "BATTERY MINUS" on the shunt. Tighten the bolt with a torque of 21 Nm. Ensure no other connections are made on this side to avoid skewing the state of charge calculations.

Step 2: Connect the negative terminal of the electrical system to the M10 bolt labelled "LOAD MINUS" on the shunt. Tighten this bolt similarly. Ensure that the negative connections of all DC loads, inverters, battery chargers, solar chargers, and other charge sources are made after the shunt.

Step 3: Attach the M10 eye terminal of the red cable with the fuse to the positive terminal of the battery. This step powers up the SmartShunt.

Step 4: If using the auxiliary input, connect the respective wires to monitor a second battery, the midpoint of a battery bank, or attach a temperature sensor.

  • Configuration via VictronConnect App: Download the VictronConnect app from the relevant app store and install it on your smartphone or tablet. Use Bluetooth to pair your device with the SmartShunt. Through the app, you can now configure the device, monitor real-time battery data, and set up various parameters such as battery capacity and charge voltage.

  • Optional Connections: For extended functionality, connect the SmartShunt to a GX device using a VE.Direct cable. This setup allows for comprehensive system monitoring and remote access via the VRM portal.

Final Checks: Ensure all connections are secure and correctly installed. Test the system by checking the data on the VictronConnect app and verifying that the readings align with expected values.
